Properties

  • Life - 6 (3 hearts)

  • Spawn - Only in jungles (on grass blocks or leaves, light level ≥ 7)

  • Variants - Red, blue, green, cyan and gray (purely visual, no playable difference)

Taming

  • Food - wheat seeds, melon seeds, pumpkin seeds or turnip seeds

  • Procedure - Feed the parrot with seeds by right-clicking until heart particles appear

  • Tamed parrots will automatically sit on your shoulder when you move

Behavior

  • Fly around randomly, land on blocks and occasionally follow the player

  • Imitate the sounds of nearby enemy mobs (e.g. zombies, creepers, skeletons)

  • Sit on the player's shoulders when they are stationary (max. 2)

  • Can be removed from the shoulders with the space bar (jump) or damage

Functions

  • Early warning system - Warn by imitating opponents in the surroundings

  • Companion animal - Follow the player over long distances (except when traveling by boat or teleporting)

  • Decorative and useful in bases or when traveling

Tips

  • Use parrots as an alarm system in your base

  • Place them on seats (e.g. fences, carpets) for decoration

  • Avoid feeding them with cocoa beans - this kills parrots (even in survival mode!)

  • Move around on foot or with a leash, as parrots do not follow boats

Trivia

  • Parrots were the first animals in the game to imitate sounds

  • Were originally introduced as a tribute to the colorful parrots of South America

  • Players can carry a maximum of two parrots on their shoulders at the same time
